Project: Repeat pattern design for Horse Rug

A multi-coloured, horse silhouette repeat textile pattern for a turnout horse rug.

An appropriate horse image was sourced then a vector silhouette shape created. Using both filled-in and outlined horse shapes I created a repeat pattern with various vivid colours against a neutral light grey background. Repeat patterns for textile garments pose several challenges, such as finding the right combination of colours, deciding whether any one colour should dominate and making sure the pattern will reproduce effectively for all sizes of the garment.

I worked closely with the product department to achieve an ideal result, with many variations being created before a final pattern was chosen. The resulting pattern proved a popular product and a big seller for Weatherbeeta.
